There are infinite ways to bring a message or a story to life. Why use animated video?
I'll give you three reasons.
Animated characters are relatable.
Strangely, the more a character looks like a human (but isn't one), the less relatable they are.
The character on the right was created by a computer. He looks very close to being a human, except he isn't one. Do you really want your viewing audience to spend their time trying to figure out if he is? Avatars can be a distraction from the message.
What about this guy? Is he a human? Absolutely not and there's no expectation that he should be. The viewers' guards come down and they are ready to see him in action.
He's expressive. He communicates human emotions and human attributes that are relatable. We watch these kinds of characters in stories all the time. Animated characters can be incredibly relatable to any audience.
It's all about the action.
Animated characters enact stories much easier than real people can. We watch them do and say things. It's thrilling! When you give your audience a chance to simply observe a story built for instruction, they get to:
Watch the action unfold instead of being told what's happening.
Critically think about how the conflict in the story applies to themselves.
Put themselves in the characters' shoes and try to figure out how they are going to get out of this mess!
Even if the video is an explainer/concept video, the movement of characters or props on the screen gives viewers greater understanding of the action behind the concept. Here's an example of a concept video. Notice how the characters and the props demonstrate the action of the message.
Animated video is efficient to build.
